340 French online shops put through the robot
We analysed 340 independent shops with the ConformRadar robot, drawn at random from those visible on Google across 10 sectors. The study covers French online shops and the French and EU rules for selling to consumers in France. The figures describe what the robot found, or did not find, on the public pages it read: they are not findings of infringement, and no shop is named.
of the shops concerned (excluding the delicatessen sector): no manufacturer block found on the product pages read (243 out of 279).
of shops whose terms of sale were read name no consumer mediator (149 of 331).
of shops still mention the EU online dispute resolution (ODR) platform, closed since 20/07/2025 (58 out of 340).
home pages out of 338 display the wording “renoncer au contrat ici” (withdraw from the contract here), required since 19/06/2026 (or a similar unambiguous wording). 6 display a close wording.
Rule by rule
Share of the shops concerned by each rule where the robot did not find the expected information. The denominator changes from one row to the next: textile product pages only concern shops that sell textiles, and the GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation) excludes foodstuffs, live plants and services.
Useful links: GPSR guide, consumer mediator guide, legal guarantee guide, textile guide.
Manufacturer information by sector
Share of shops with no manufacturer block found, by sector (shops where at least one product page subject to the GPSR was read). For brands that make their own products, their identity sometimes appears in the footer without being presented as the manufacturer's: the robot does not count it.
The closed dispute resolution platform, by e-commerce software
The EU online dispute resolution (ODR) platform has closed: the obligation to link to it ended on 20/07/2025. Share of shops that still mention it, by e-commerce software (only software used by at least 10 shops in the sample is shown).
This observation is reliable: the 4 cases drawn at random for manual verification were accurate. See the guide to the consumer mediator and the end of the platform.
Environmental claims, before 27 September 2026
The French Environmental Code (Code de l'environnement) already bans “biodégradable” (biodegradable) and “respectueux de l'environnement” (environmentally friendly) on a product. Directive (EU) 2024/825 targets generic claims from 27/09/2026. Share of shops where at least one occurrence was found (home page, categories or product pages); it may be editorial text rather than a selling point.
Other observations
- Legal guarantee. Nearly one shop in four whose terms of sale were read does not set out the legal guarantee of conformity in the wording of the French Consumer Code (87 of 331 according to the robot, 13 of 15 confirmed by hand in a sample). Legal guarantee guide.
- EPR unique identifier. 79 shops have at least one unique identifier recorded in the public register of ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition) under their SIREN number (French company number), but the robot did not find it on the pages read. EPR unique identifier guide.
Method
- Sample. 70 shopping searches on Google France (10 sectors), organic results from 16/09/2026. Excluded: marketplaces, major retail chains, non-French or non-commercial sites, and sites linked to the publisher of ConformRadar. 348 shops drawn at random, 36 per sector (24 in electronics, as there were not enough eligible shops), of which 340 were kept: 8 sites were set aside during the analysis because no online sales were found or because the publisher is established outside France.
- Analysis. The ConformRadar robot, in its corrected version of 17/09/2026 and under the same conditions as the free check: robots.txt respected, one page per second, home page, legal pages and up to 5 product pages. 28 shops (robot blocked, site unreachable or out of scope) were replaced from the reserve drawn at random for their sector. The withdrawal wording was searched for separately on the home pages.
- Verification. 34 observations drawn at random were checked by hand in a browser: 24 were accurate, the others partly accurate or wrong. The engine was corrected accordingly and the whole study run again. After the last run, a further 61 observations drawn at random were checked by hand: mediator missing, accurate 15 times out of 15; legal guarantee missing, 13 times out of 15; manufacturer block missing, 8 times out of 8 on shops that sell online. The figure on the mention of the right of withdrawal in the terms of sale and the figure on strikethrough prices are not published: the first depends too heavily on whether the terms of sale are found, the second required a reading specific to each e-commerce platform, which has since been added. The GPSR figure excludes the delicatessen sector, where the robot has difficulty telling foodstuffs (outside the regulation) apart from the items sold alongside them.
- Limits. The robot reads public pages: a piece of information may be on a page that was not read, worded differently, behind anti-bot protection or in the customer account. The percentages describe the sample, not all French online shops.
- Updates. On 16/09/2026, a second manual verification showed that the robot sometimes missed the terms of sale (hidden links, unusual titles): the "terms of sale not found" figure was removed, and the mediator and legal guarantee figures were given as orders of magnitude. On 17/09/2026, the engine was corrected, the whole study run again and checked by hand once more: the figures on this page come from that run.
